Networking & Career Day

Each fall, SPRA hosts its Networking and Career Day, a special event for college junior, senior, and graduate students majoring in marketing, public relations, journalism, or communication studies programs at regional universities. This event offers students an opportunity to spend the day touring some of Sacramento’s leading public relations agencies and in-house public relations departments.

In addition to the tours, participants will attend an SPRA luncheon, held at the Firehouse restaurant in Old Sacramento, featuring a panel of media professionals who will give advice on pitching the area’s top media outlets. At the luncheon, participants will also have the opportunity to network with some of Sacramento’s most prominent public relations professionals and potential future employers. Students are encouraged to network and learn more about available internships and job openings (feel free to bring resumes).

There are a limited number of spots available. Applicants should be seriously interested in establishing a career in public relations and be in good academic standing. Applications forms are posted in late August and must be submitted no later than three weeks prior to the event, held typically the fourth Thursday in October. Once applications are reviewed, accepted students will be notified and will receive their individual tour location assignments the morning of the event. Assignments might include a television or radio station, publication, non-profit organization, goverment entity, advertising/creative firm, and/or public relations agency. During the day, students will go on a behind-the-scene tour and interact with company hiring agents and communication professionals and learn about the skills employers are seeking. This is a great opportunity to make a first and lasting impression on, potentially, your next employer.

The cost is $30 per person and includes admission to the noon Professional Speakers Series event and lunch.
