The Sacramento Public Relations Association invites you to its Professional Speakers Series luncheon. This month please join us as Kelly Huston, Assistant Secretary of the California Emergency Management Agency, will teach the secrets of handling a major media crisis.

As residents of California, we have all heard topics such as the Swine Flu and Jesusita Fires featured in the news and we are all interested in how these issues progress. In times like these, it is crucial to address public concern. As communications professionals, we know that one slip of the tongue, untimely response or failed communication can turn a situation from a manageable problem into a major media crisis. As the Assistant Secretary of the California Emergency Management Agency—formerly known as the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services—Kelly Huston has managed these types of situations numerous times and has tips and tricks for handling the media and addressing public concern.

How to recognize the five early warning signs of a media crisis

Understanding you don't have to be an expert to handle the media during a crisis

What everybody should know about using the Internet to handle a major media crisis

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: Wednesday, May 27 at Noon

The cost is $25 for SPRA members and $30 for nonmembers. The cost to all registrants after the deadline is $30. Please pay, at registration, with cash, check, or money order.
You must RSVP by May 27 at noon in order to receive your meal selection. Drop-in attendees will only be offered what the kitchen can provide.
